Newsbreak: Herdsmen open fire, kill three boy in Yoruba Kogi community

By Samuel Ogunsona

Armed men suspected to be herdsmen have killed three young boys in Ololoke, the same Yoruba community where a traditional ruler His Royal Majesty, Oba J D Ogunyanda was kidnapped few days ago.

Sources told Irohinoodua that the herdsmen met the three young boys in the bush on their way to Egbe, another major Yoruba community in Kogi State. The heavily armed herdsmen were said to have opened fire on the three boys, killing them instantly.

Sources said the armed men later retreated into the bush.

The Akogum of Irele Ekiti, not too far from Egbe, Chief Abejide Kehinde, said the killing was one too many.

He told Irohinoodua that the communities in the area are worried about the ceaseless killings perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen

“They are killing us like chicken. Our people cannot continue to farm. They can’t go to the stream. Fear has been imposed on us not because we cannot fight back but our hands are tied by the Nigerian state,” he said.

He said the three boys did not provoke the armed Fulani men who opened fire on them.

In a statement on Saturday signed by Ajayi Olowo on behalf of youths in Okoloke said another the three promising young guys were killed by Fulani armed men in Okoloke on Saturday.

The youth leader said the killings represent a declaration of war on his people. He said he could not imagine what would happen if armed Yoruba youths invade the North West and begin to kidnap Emirs, rape their wives and kill their youths.

He said having grown up in the North, he knew such an action would have led to mass uprising in the North.

He said “They left Okoloke for Egbe in search of fuel for the Glo mask in the community and were met on the way by a team of terrorists who opened fire on them as the were approaching on the motorcycle.”

He said the Oba of Okoloke who was kidnapped three days ago is still in the captivity of the herdsmen.
