Newsbreak: Terrorists attack Ogbomoso, kill five

By Ahmed Adeola

Armed terrorists have invaded Ogbomoso, a major and historic town in Oyo State.

Five people were left dead after the terrorists attacked Oloka village in Oriire local government area of Oyo State.

The attack took place on Tuesday night.

“The terrorists were armed with AK47. They stormed the community and opened fires on five men. The victims were members of the guards at the National Park,” a community leader, Abass Ayodele told our correspondent.

The new Baale of Oloka Chief Joel Olatunde Alagbe said the terrorists entered Ogbomoso in a convoy of motorcycles around 10pm on Monday.

He said they attacked members of the National Park Service (NPS) who were eating at the time.

“Oloka borders the National Park in that area, so the Awogbos (park rangers) had an office in our town. They were sitting in front of their office and eating at about 10pm yesterday when the bandits opened fire on them, in fact, one of them had his body burned which made us suspect they threw bombs at them too,” the Baale said.
Locals expressed fear that the terorists might attack the town again following earlier threats from them.

“We informed the police and Amokekun. They have launched investigations into the matter. Some of the corps members have been deployed to track down the terrorists,” Ayodele said.

He however expressed fear over the vulnerability of Ogbomoso.

“Its not a good thing if Ogbomoso could be attacked. This city is an historical Yoruba city. Its sad news that terrorists would come and attack without any consequences. If they can attack Ogbomoso just like that, it means they are already having stronghold and incursion into Yoruba mainland,” he said.
