Newsbreak:Kidnapped Doctor’s brother killed as terrorists demand 100m

By Samuel Ogunsona

A tragic incident has unfolded in Auchi, Igbira camp, Edo State

Terrorists have killed the junior brother of a medical doctor, Dr. Abu Babatunde Ibrahim while holding the medical practitioner

The doctor and his murdered brother, Abu Momoh Tahir who was a recent graduate of Ambrose Alli University were kidnapped on Friday, January 2, 2026.

The kidnappers demanded a ransom of N200 million naira for the safe release of both brothers.

However, in a shocking turn of events, the younger brother, Abu Momoh Tahir, was brutally killed by the kidnappers, leaving the family to negotiate for the release of Dr. Abu Babatunde Ibrahim for 100 million naira.

Irohinoodua was informed that the family is troubled that they have to look for N200m to secure the release of the Doctor having most his junior brother.

The reason for his murder remains unknown but sources said terrorists are notorious for drug abuse apart from their penchant for selling human organs.

According to family members who spoke to Irohinodua on Tuesday, the incident occurred when the younger brother, Abu Momoh Tahir, was trying to open the gate for his brother to come out and was held hostage outside by the kidnappers. “The junior brother was trying to open the gate for his brother to come out and he was held hostage outside and they also picked up his senior brother. So they demand 200m for the two brothers,” a family member revealed.

Abu Momoh Tahir, a newly graduated student of Ambrose Alli University, was a prominent figure in the university community. He was once the Director of Sports at the Student Union Government level and had served as the Speaker of the Faculty of Life Sciences.

His death has sent shockwaves across the university community and beyond.

A close relation of the family, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed frustration with the state government’s response to the incident. “About 5 people were kidnapped in that area within 48 hours, which prompted students union to carry out a protest, but some politicians and school management tried to stop the protest from happening,” the relation alleged.

“The state governor has not issued any statement despite getting the information to his office.”

Irohinodua contacted the Auchi Police DPO, Mr. Paul, who confirmed that the kidnapping incident had been reported to his office since last week Friday, 2nd of January 2025.

However, when asked about the death of Abu Momoh Tahir, Mr. Paul refused to comment.

The family has expressed disappointment with the police’s handling of the situation. “We invited the police, they checked the CCTV footage and promised to get to the bottom of the situation, but we are yet to hear anything from them,” the family said.

As the family seeks to secure the release of Dr. Abu Babatunde Ibrahim, they are appealing to the government and well-meaning Nigerians to come to their aid. The family is urging anyone with information that could lead to the safe release of the medical doctor to contact the authorities or reach out to them directly.
