By Adedeji Okunola, Ibadan
The Secretry, Yoruba Council of Elders, (YCE) Dr Kunle Olajide has been suspended.
Olajide few days ago had attacked those calling for Oodua Republic.
However, in a Communique on Tuesday, the Council fired Olajide.
Sam Agbetuyi was appointed to immediately take over the position of Assistant Secretary-General one
The YCE also passed a vote of confidence on Agbede who is the President of the Council.
Some YCE members who spoke to Irohinoodua accused Olajide of allowing himself to be used by ant-Yoruba forces.
Olajide was said to be one of those who campaigned vigorously for the late Gen Sani Abacha dream of transforming into a civilian President.
He was suspended indefinitely for what the council described as “Gross Misconduct”
The YCE took the decision after a Joint Meeting of Senior Elders’ Forum and Chairmen of State Chapters, which took place at the council’s National Secretariat, Old Bodija in Ibadan, the Voice of Nigeria. Irohinoodua was informed that allegations against Olajide included his lack of consultation before issuing the statement against the O’odua Republic agitators.
The communiqué was signed by the President of the council, Col. Sam Ade Agbede (retd) after the meeting.
He said Olajide was suspended for “reasons of gross misconduct and insubordination.”
The council asked him to “surrender all the council’s property and documents in his custody to the president immediately”.
