The management of Lagos State University (LASU) has relieved Professor O.T.F. Abanikanda of his duties as Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture following allegations of degrading and inhumane treatment of students.

Dr. Oladele Ojuromi has been appointed as the new Dean of the Faculty.

Students are jubilating over the development, chanting praise songs and offering prayers for the new Dean’s success.

One of the students said, “After TIB’s intervention in the ongoing LASU crisis, the management relieved Prof. O.T.F. Abanikanda of his duty and appointed Dr. Oladele Ojuromi as the new Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture.”

The decision comes after the Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement raised concerns about the harsh conditions students were subjected to while living and working on the university’s school farm.

According to sources, students were forced to live in makeshift shelters within the farm for over a month as part of their project assignment, with conditions described as “prison-like.”

The students were allegedly denied access to their hostels and forced into intense manual labor under threats of failure.

A source within the university revealed, “These are his project students, and that’s where they have been sleeping for over one month. He said they must not go to their hostels—that they will remain there until they are done with their project, which might be till November or December.”
