Two Nigerians picked in India for romance scam, drug

By Samuel Ogunsona

Two Nigerians, Oliver Okechukwu and Ikechukwu Callistus, have been apprehended in India for separate crimes of romance scams and drug trafficking.

Okechukwu, 47, was arrested by the Bagalkot district police for allegedly duping a woman of ₹5.5 lakh under the guise of marriage. He posed as “Satya Amit,” a London-based professional, and convinced the victim to transfer money into a bank account to complete a supposed transaction after claiming customs officers seized US dollars worth ₹1 crore from him at the airport.

The police tracked Okechukwu through PhonePe and Google Pay transactions and CCTV footage from shops where he made purchases. Four mobile phones, a laptop, and a passport were recovered from him.

A 38-Year-Old man, Callistus, was also arrested in Goa for drug trafficking.

The Crime Branch seized 35.5 grams of cocaine, 4.4 grams of methamphetamine, and 2.3 grams of MDMA, valued at around ₹8.5 lakh. Callistus has been booked under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is being handled by PSI Amin A. Naik.

These arrests come amid growing scrutiny of Nigerians abroad over allegations of drug trafficking and fraud. Earlier this year, over 50 Nigerians were arrested in Ghana during a raid where police suspected them of cybercrime.
