Nigerian Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has lauded the Igbo community, stating that they are the greatest stakeholders in the Nigerian project.
The Igbo are currently clamouring for the separate State of Biafra currently led by Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB).
Shettima made this remark while delivering a speech on national unity and economic opportunity monitored by Irohinodua.
“Ndigbo has the greatest stakeholders in the Nigerian project. Half of Abuja is owned by Ndigbo,” Shettima declared.
He noted that the Igbo community’s presence and influence are felt across the country, citing their significant presence in major cities.
“Abuja is owned by the Igbo. Half of the population of Lagos is likely made up of the Igbo. There is hardly any place in this country where you won’t find an Igbo manufacturer if you don’t see one, run away from that place. If you don’t see a Hausa person, run away from that place,” he said.
Shettima attributed this widespread presence to the community’s entrepreneurial spirit, stating that they naturally gravitate towards areas of opportunity. He urged leaders to invest in their hometowns, emphasizing that Nigeria stands on the brink of unprecedented growth.
The Vice President also highlighted Nigeria’s potential, citing the country’s projected population growth.
“One out of every four black men is a Nigerian,” he quoted a former President of Mauritius as saying. He projected that by 2050, Nigeria will surpass the United States to become the third most populous nation globally with approximately 440 million people.
“I am proud to call myself Nigerian,” Shettima concluded, affirming his confidence in the nation’s potential.
