NADECO chieftain Cornelius Adebayo dies at 84

A Chieftain of the National Democratic Coalition, (NADECO) and disciple of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo has died.
His name is Cornelius Adebayo who also served as the Governor of Kwara State under the Unity Party of Nigeria, (UPN) platform.
He was the first democratically elected Yoruba Governor of Kwara State serving between 1983 to December 1984 when the democratic government was removed by General Mohammadu Buhari and Brigadier Tunde Idiagbon.
He was also a Senator representing Kwara State between 1979 and 1983.
Adebayo hailed from Igbaja in Kwara State.
During the campaign against Military rule, Adebayo held the fort in Canada where he led NADECO. He was part of several campaigns against military rule while in exile.
Returning home in 1998, he was in the defunct Alliance for Democracy, (AD). He later joined the veiled Unity Government of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo serving as Communications Minister
from July 2003 to August 2006.
He was born on February 24, 1941.
He had lived a quiet life in Abuja until he died on Wednesday morning.
