Newsbreak: Obi finally joins ADC

By Rahman Bakare

Former Labour Party, (LP) Presidential hopeful, Mr Peter Obi has finally decamped to the African Democratic Congress, (ADC).

He joined the opposition party on Wednesday.Irohinoodua was informed that Obi earlier met former Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) Atiku Abubakar. It was unclear what may happen after Obi’s decision to join ADC: Either he emerges as the Presidential candidate or as Vice Presidential candidate with a deal for the Northern candidate to spend on my one term or for Obi as future ADC Presidential candidate to spend only one term if he wins the 2027 Presidential election. Irohinoodua was informed that the current US President Donald Trump pressure on Nigeria to respect the rights of Christians might make it difficult, especially for the opposition to put forward a Muslim candidate in 2027.

Obi said “Today is an important day; today is the last day of 2025, so we are ending this year with the hope that, in 2026, we will begin a journey of the rescue of our country for proper socio-economic development that will be unifying and inclusive.

“We have all watched those who benefited from our democracy, sometime now, become accessories to destroying our democracy, either through coercion and gangsterism against the opposition. We cannot allow this to happen, we will resist it.”

Obi cross carpet to the ADC was against his earlier signal that he would remain in the Labour Party.

With the development, Obi had flirted with at least four political parties since he joined partisan politics.

He was once in United Progressive Grand Alliance, (UPGA), later he joined the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), then later Labour Party and now ADC.

Obi joined the ADC accompanied by some prominent Igbo leaders.

The event took place in Enugu, the capital city of Enugu State.
