Newsbreak:Terrorists attack Ondo police station, cart away arms

By Ibukun Falae

Heavily armed terrorists have attacked a police station in Ipele located in Ondo State. Locals said the invaders were terrorists seeking revenge in the wake of the US-Nigerian led operations against Islamic terrorists in the North.

Since the attack on Sokoto, hundreds of terrorists have been fleeing to the Southern part of Nigeria.

Irohinoodua was informed that the attackers came in the night of Wednesday operating for about two hours while Christians and Muslims in the community were preparing for the New Year.

“Their target was the police station and the community residents. They first subdued the police station in an overwhelming attack before proceeding to kidnap people in the village,” a local resident Aliu Ayomide told Irohinoodua.

He said they numbered about 24 and were armed with AK 47.

Ayomide said “No doubt they were terrorists. I think they are part of the
Fulani terrorists operating in Ipele area. They kidnapped some women after the attack.”

Ayomide who is a retired military officer said the attackers operated like guerilla fighters. “I think they are building up a fighting force in the bush to encircle and attack Yoruba territories.”

Ipele is located near Owo in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State. Its was the same Owo that was attacked in 2022 when over 40 people were killed after the bombing of a Catholic Church in the community.

Another eyewitness said some police men were injured. The source said the terrorists also burned down the police station in the community.

The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Abayomi, confirmed the attack.

He said, “Yes it happened but we will get the details out tomorrow.”

An Amotekun operative who does not wish to be named said about 50 men have been deployed in a joint operation with the police to track down the terrorists.
