Nigerians arrested for Kidnapping in Ghana, victims rescued

Some Nigerians have been arrested for kidnapping by the Ghanian Government in collaboration with International Police, (INTERPOL)

The criminals are The kidnappers Peter Okoye, Christian Emeka, and Bassey Okonkwo. They were trailed and arrested in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

They had visited Ghana several times after which they lured the Ghanians to Nigeria where they were kidnapped after which they demanded for N1m Ghanaian Cedes as ransom.

The Ghana special investigation unit worked round the clock to arrest the criminals and rescue the victims.

Speaking on the issue, Ghana Police Service said, “On 25th April 2025, the missing person unit of the Ghana Police Service received a complaint from the relative of Anastasia Badu that on the 22nd April 2025 at about 09:00, the victim left home and traveled to Accra for a routine medical check-up but did not return.”

The police investigation revealed that the suspects used fake Facebook profiles, posing as white men, to lure the victims to Nigeria.

“The suspects posed as white men who wanted to marry the victims,” the police stated. “The 2 unsuspecting victims became convinced, accepted the marriage proposal, and the suspect then lured them to Nigeria.”

The victims, Anastasia Badu and Evelyn Sewa Klidu, were kidnapped, stripped naked, tied up, and assaulted. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of 500,000 Ghana cedis from each of the victims’ families.

“All these violent acts perpetrated against the victims were recorded on video, disseminated on social media, and also a copy was sent to the victims’ families with the demand for ransom,” the police stated.

A total of 18,000 Ghana cedis was paid to various phone numbers by the families. The police, with assistance from Interpol, tracked down the suspects and rescued the victims. “As of today, both suspects and victims are with the Nigerian authorities, and efforts are being made to transport the victims to Ghana and also extradite the suspects to Ghana to assist investigations,” the police stated.

The police investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in romance scams and had used the kidnapped victims’ Facebook accounts to lure them to Nigeria.

The Ghana Police Service worked tirelessly to rescue the victims, and their efforts paid off when the victims were finally rescued. “Information received from our counterparts in Nigeria indicates that both victims are fine and have received routine medical checks,” the police stated.

The suspects are currently in custody, and efforts are being made to extradite them to Ghana to face trial.

The victims are expected to return to Ghana soon, and further updates will be provided once they are back in the country.
