Terrorists storm Akure airport runway, four arrested
A dramatic incident unfolded at Akure Airport Ondo State at the weekend as armed men invaded the Airport runway.
Security operatives promptly responded arresting four suspects.
According to report, the incident happened when farmers were chased by gunmen on motorcycles from their farmland into the airport premises, drawing attention from air traffic controllers in the control tower.
A joint operation involving Aviation Security officers, the Nigerian Air Force, and the Nigerian Army led to the arrest of four suspects after a pursuit through the nearby forest.
The suspects have been handed over to the police for further interrogation.
FAAN Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, emphasized the need for enhanced security measures, including operational and perimeter fences at airports, saying, “The incident highlights the need for us to beef up security around our airports”
