Yoruba Chief killed in kidnap attempt in Owo

A violent incident has unfolded in Ipele-Owo, Ondo State, resulting in the death of a community leader, Chief Arije of Ofi.

According to reports made available to Irohinoodua, the tragic event occurred on Saturday at approximately 8:00 p.m. at the chief’s residence in the Ofi area.

Eyewitness accounts told Irohinoodua that unknown gunmen invaded Chief Arije’s home, attempting to abduct him.

The assailants fired shots into the air, trying to intimidate residents. However, Chief Arije resisted the kidnappers, struggling and crying out for help.

As locals began to approach the scene, likely alerted by the gunfire, the kidnappers realized they were about to be confronted.

Many witnesses said the kidnappers were Fulani herdsmen.

“In a desperate bid to escape, they killed Chief Arije and fled the area” residents who want to remain anonymous told Irohinodua.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing outrage and fear over the growing insecurity in the region.

The killing of Chief Arije is a grim reminder of the dangers faced by residents in Ipele-Owo and the need for increased security measures to protect lives and property.
