Yoruba man to lead Rotary International Club worldwide

A momentous occasion is unfolding in the global Rotary International community.

A Yorubaman, Rotarian, Olayinka Hakeem Babalola, is set to become the President of Rotary International.

Irohinodua learned that on July 1, 2026, Olayinka would assume the esteemed office, becoming the second African to hold this position.

The Rotary Club was established by attorney Paul P. Harris

He began the club in Chicago on February 23, 1905.

There were three business people that assisted him a—Gustavus Loehr, Silvester Schiele, and Hiram Shorey—

The Club was founded to establish partnership and strengthen humanitarian services across the world.

It promotes “ethical leadership among professionals, with meetings initially rotating among members’ offices, hence the name “Rotary”

Olayinka was seen holding high the Nigerian flag at the global summit ahead of his assumption of office.

“Making Nigeria proud on the global stage” is an apt description of Rotarian Babalola’s remarkable achievement. As President-Elect of Rotary International, he has been making waves in the organization, and his ascension to the top spot is a testament to his dedication and leadership.

With over 1.4 million Rotarians worldwide, Rotarian Babalola’s appointment is a significant milestone for the organization.

As a seasoned Rotarian, he has held various positions, including Rotary International Vice President and RI Board member.

The 2026 – 2027 Rotary year promises to be an exciting period for Rotarians globally, and Rotarian Babalola’s leadership is expected to inspire and motivate members to make a meaningful impact in their communities.
