Newsbreak: Armed herdsmen attack SGF Akume hometown in Benue

Armed herdsmen have attacked the community of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, (SGF), George Akume.

The attackers struck less than 72 hours after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Benue State where Wannune community in Tarka Local Government is located.

Sources told Irohinoodua that the attackers sacked several homes leaving scores of deaths in Wannume.

Local sources said many residents were wounded.

President Tinubu was in Benue State midweek where he had gone to appeal for calm.

Earlier some 200 people were killed by armed herdsmen. Benue currently is home to some 2million Internally Displaced People, (IDP).

A woman who escaped attack said she saw over 20 armed men some in military uniforms.

“They came suddenly. They started shooting and killing. Some children were not spared. Their mission was to kill. They shot for many hours before they left,” she said.

In Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area, more than 200 people were murdered in cold blood. Many of them were women and children.

During the visit, President Tinubu asked the Service Chiefs to relocated to Benue and ensure order. The Nigerian security on Friday attested some people linked with the attacks.

The Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia has also called security operatives to help douse the raging flame of death which has made development difficult.
