Scores of armed men have kidnapped a traditional ruler in Kwara State, Oba Simeon Olaonipekun.
He is the Aniwo of Afin, Ileire located in the South of Kwara State.
Irohinoodua was informed that the Oba was kidnapped by terrorists suspected to be Fulani.
The king was kidnapped from his palace on Wednesday. Local sources said his wife was shot by the armed men while one of the Oba’s was also abducted.
“As at now, the Yoruba Oba and his son are in the custody of the Fulani terrorists. We cant continue to shoulder this great insult. Can Yoruba people invade the Fulani territories in the North and began to kidnap their Emirs? This is what is happening in Yorubaland. Its really a shame,” a community leader who does not wish to be named told Irohinoodua.
A local goverment official, Makinde Sadiku said since the attacks on Sokoto terrorists’ cells, many of them have been moving down to the South.
A palace official said the Olori was shot in one of her hands during the incident and has since been rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
The source said one of the princes was also abducted alongside the monarch.
“We urge everyone to join in prayers for their safe and speedy release, as well as for the quick recovery of the injured Olori. May they all return home safely and in good health.”
Meanwhile, a lady who was among Yoruba people kidnapped barely 14 days was released on Wednesday. Speaking to our correspondent, she said no fewer than 40 Yoruba people were held with her in a forest located between Ikoro, Egbe and Ekiti State. She said the abductors waylaid oncoming vehicles which they raided at random picking their victims like fowl.
‘Each victim was asked to pay 50m. I got mine reduced to 3million before I was released. Some may never be located by their families for ever. The kidnappers are Fulani,” she told Irohinoodua.
