Terrorists suspected to be Fulani have again kidnapped unspecified number of students and at least one tutor who is the Principal of a Secondary school in Oyo State, South West Nigeria.
Locals said the kidnappers were Fulani.
The Oyo Police command saif they are working hard to track down the attackers.
“They came in large numbers, with arms. They started shooting into the air. They took away many students and the principal of the school,” a retired teacher who live in the town told Irohinoodua.
The indence took place in the morning of Friday, the source said.
Police said they were yet to ascertain the number of victims.
The terrorists attacked Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State, where the school is located.
The armed men surged into Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, according to community sources shooting as school children wailed in anguish.
“Young virgins were among their victims. This is a huge truama,” a community leader, Abiodun Hamzat told Irohinoodua. He praised police efforts saying the State Commission’s team visited the town.
Bisi Oluwole, an indigene of the town told Irohinoodua that residents were shocked to watch the terrorists invade the town in broad day light.
“Terrorists used to operate in the night. This time, they came in the morning at around 8:30am. They operated for hours because the response from the local security did not come on time. They took away young girls. We are traumatised,” he said.
Witnesses claimed the terrorists stormed the school premises, took away the students and a middle-aged woman,Mrs Racheal Alamu who is the principal of the school.
The spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade has already confirmed the attack.
The State Police Commissioner and his team visited the community on Friday.
He said the police were working hard to arrest the terrorists.
Irohinoodua was informed that the Oyo State Police Commissioner, Abimbola Oluwagbenga is working hard to secure the release of victims
Police confirmed that there was an attack, but the number of victims abducted had not yet been verified.
The attack on the community school appears to mark an increasing rate of attacks on the South West. Few days ago, Fulani terrorists attacked Oke-Eri, located near Ijebu Ode. The armed men took away three people from the same family. A resident was also shot during the attack.
