Terrorists on rampage kidnapping, killing and beheading need all the money required to wage Jihad, Sheik Gumi has said.
The controversial cleric has come under attacks with many Nigerians calling for his arrest and prosecution.
Gumi said in the interview aired on African Independent Television, [AIT] that the terrorists are carrying out a string of bizarre attacks because they need funds to prosecute Jihad suggesting that Nigerians should be prepared for Jihad and indirectly saying the violence is motivated by the desire to impose strict Islamic rules on Nigerians.
He said “The terrorists need all the money they’re getting from kidnapping. It’s not like they are living luxurious lives; the government is putting too much pressure on them so they need money to finance their war machines.”
Gumi has been giving public impressions that suggest justification of violent extremism.
In another viral video, Gumi said Fulani terrorists have “are going nowhere.”
In his reaction, Deji Adeyanji a rights activist said “People like Gumi can only survive in a country without a government. Terrorists sympathizers are terrorists.”
Hear him “If they leave banditry, they won’t have source of financing their war machine,” giving the impression that the onslaught from security operatives aid the sustained campaign of terror.
46 people were kidnappped in Oyo State last week Friday with one of them beheaded by the terrorists.
The Defence Headquarters said the attackers were members of JAF, a break away Boko Haram faction.
