Coup plot: Whymilitary arrested Nollywood actor Amadi

By Samuel Ogunsona
A Nollywood actor, identified as Stanley Amadi is a suspect in the ongoing trial of coup plotters who had wanted to kill President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Mustapha Shettima and other top government officials.
Sources told Irohinoodua that Amadi who is now in custody was arrested late last year.
The plotters had wanted to kill many government officials with a department set aside to launch massive social media propaganda against the current Government and also to present the coup plotters as “God-sent.”
The source said he was recruited to enlist social media activists and bloggers to launder the image of the coup plotters and present them as revolutionaries who had come to safe Nigeria.
Amadi has been arrested by security agencies over his alleged involvement in a failed coup plot against the Federal Government of Nigeria. The plot was to toppled democracy and impose martial law.
The source said Amadi was listed to recruit hundreds of social media influentials who who in term would work with some journalists to present the plotters as men of integrity.
According to sources, the actor was arrested in Enugu.
He is being held by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) over his alleged role in the media and messaging side of the coup plot.
Irohinoodua was informed that the actor’s family and friends initially thought he was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS), but the DSS later clarified that he was in the custody of the DIA.
The DIA has been asked to grant access to the actor’s wife, lawyer, and medical doctor, particularly since he is hypertensive.
Authorities suspect that the actor was positioned as a propagandist to help shape public narratives that could justify or promote the unconstitutional takeover.
“We were informed that he was arrested and taken into custody,” a family source said. “The DSS initially denied involvement, but later confirmed he was with the DIA.”
The actor’s arrest has sent shockwaves through the Nollywood community, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.
