Igbos behind South-East killings, not herdsmen — Joe Igbokwe

By Samuel Ogunsona

Brutal killings and kidnap in the South East are crimes perpetrated by Igbo, a prominent politician, Joe Igbokwe has said.

His position echoes what the Governor of Anambra State, Prof Godwin Soludo said not too long ago.

Separatist groups have carried out a string of violence in the South-East leading to many deaths.

The South East is calling for separation from Nigeria.

The leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), the leading group, Mr Nnamdi Kanu is currently being held in detention by the central Government with charges of treason prefered against him.

The region continue to be plagued by violence and unrest in recent times, with various groups and individuals calling for peace and stability. Amidst this backdrop, a prominent APC member, Joe Igbokwe, has made a bold statement about the crisis.

According to Igbokwe in one of his Facebook post obtained by Irohinodua, the crisis is being fueled by internal factors rather than external forces.

He wrote, “The blatant and pathological lies about the killings and destruction in the South East can no longer stand. It is Igbo killing Igbo, it is Igbo destroying Igboland and put the blame on others. This is not our culture. This is sad.”

Igbokwe, a vocal advocate for peace in the Igbo region, has consistently called for an end to violence and encouraged Nigerians to look beyond ethnic divisions.

He also raised concerns about the growing menace of ethnic bigotry in Nigeria, warning that many people may not be aware of the potential consequences.

Igbokwe expressed, “Ethnic bigotry is growing hopelessly like wildfire in Nigeria, and our eyes are not open to see the danger. I pray that the veil covering our eyes will be removed so that we can see clearly.”

His statement has sparked a mix of reactions, with some calling for more dialogue and understanding to address the root causes of the violence.

As the situation continues to unfold, Igbokwe’s words serve as a reminder of the need for Nigerians to come together and work towards peace and stability.
