Newsbreak: Akara-Kulikuli Movement emerges, promises mass votes for Tinubu

Akara-Kulikuli Movement of Nigeria, [AKUMON] will soon be launched.

The group aims at mobilising millions of artisans, poor and haggling commons to vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 Presidential election.

The First Lady, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu had urged Nigerians to be more creative by engaging in small business that can yield profit adding that little business could serve as a mustard seed for greater financial fortunes.

Her position came under fierce criticisms mostly from political foes who accused her of being insensitive to the plight of ordinary Nigerians.

But the newly formed Akara-Kulikuli Movement of Nigeria, (AKUMON) argued that attacking the position of the first lady was lack or respect for the dignity of labour and that millions of great men and women began from very humble trade like frying Akara and Kulikuli.

The group said the movement was established to prove that “the poor people also matter” in Nigerian political economy.

In a statement on Sunday, the National President of the group, Mrs Bisi Abegunde, the National Secretary, Hajia Medinat Bade and the Vice Presidents Uche Izuora and Omolade Adegbuyi said the organisation will be launched in August.

The group said deciding Kulikuli and Akara sellers is aking to questioning the integrity of honest petty traders who rely on Akara and Kuli Kuli as their means of livelihood from where they were able to send their chlldren to school.

The group’s leaders said the are representing the spirit of millions of men and women across Nigeria who fry Akara and sell kulikuli as a means of livelihood.

“We children of Akara and Kulikuli sellers have come together to prove one thing. The poor also matter. There is dignity in labour. Their is pride in selling Akara and Kulikuli. This petty trade engages over 30 million Nigerians spread across the country. The informal sector contributes over 60 percent to Nigerian Gross Domestic Product. That the First Lady considers this set of people worthy is a remarkable appreciation of the travails of the ordinary Nigeria.”

The statement said those who criticised the wife of the President have no respect for ordinary Nigerians who eke out a living from small businesses tagging them as enemies of the masses.

“We are calling on all children of Akara and Kulikuli sellers to come together as a political movement. We already have over 250,000 members and the number is growing daily. The movement includes all Akara and Kulikuli sellers, their children and people whose parents at one time or the other were involved in selling Akara and or Kulikuli. The enthusiasm has been amazing. We are moving from state to state. It’s a political movement that will mobilise for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Vice President, Shettima”

The group said the movement will be launched in Lagos in August.
