Newsbreak: Igboho halts attempt by Ilorin police to abduct Isese activist from Ibadan

The Chairman of Iru Ekun, Oloye Sunday Adeyemo alias Igboho has halted attempts by police to abduct a popular traditional worshiper from his Ibadan, Oyo State home.

The police men had visited the home of Tani Olohun in Ibadan with attempts to abduct him.

The police broke the door to the home of the family prompting his wife and neigbours to rise up in his defence.

Armed Police were also seen assaulting Tani Olohun and his wife. Calls made to Igboho prompted immediate mobilisation of his men to the scene.

Igboho later called the Kwara State Police command warning him that the police men from his command would destroy his name if he continued to allow them to be use in pursuit of religious agenda.

Sources told Irohinoodua that the police were acting on firm instructions of the Ilorin Emirate

Tani Olohun has become known for his criticims of extremists ideology and some Islamic scholars who devote their pages and sermons to attacking traditional religion

In a statement on Tuesday, the Alliance for Yoruba Democratic Movement, [AYDM] condemned what it termed “Emirate sponsored attacks on freedom of worship.”

The statement signed by AYDM General Secretary Popoola Ajayi condemned plans by the police to abduct a citizen for transfer to Ilorin.

“This is criminal and illegal. The police invaded Tani Olorun’s private home. He was attacked and brutalised. He was wounded. The police obviously wanted him dead. We condemn this babaric and provocative plot.”

AYDM which is an alliance of 120 Pan Yoruba groups called on the Kwara State Government and the Inspector General of Police, Tunde Disu to prevail on the Kwara State and the Ilorin Emirate to stop using the police to pursue extremist religious agenda.
