Ghana to export electricity to Nigeria, set to become regional hub

Nigeria used to export electricity to Ghana and many West African countries.
The reverse is now the case undermining the level of gross irresponsibility of Nigerian leaders and mass exploitation of Nigerians by largely incompetent DISCOs
This week Ghana unveiled plans to sell electricity to Nigeria as part of a wider push to position itself as the leading power supplier in West Africa.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, who said the government is scaling up generation and transmission to meet growing regional demand.
Irohinodua was informed that Ghana already exports power to Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire.
According to the plan, Ghana wants to leverage its energy mix of natural gas, renewables and proposed nuclear power to strengthen supply.
It also intends to expand high-voltage transmission networks to handle long-distance trade, including with Nigeria’s large market.
Officials say the proposed arrangement with Nigeria could involve power-barter frameworks and complementary resource agreements, designed to integrate the two economies and stabilize supply across the sub-region.
The government argues that becoming a regional hub will attract investment, create jobs, and improve energy security for member states.
