Newsbreak: Igboho, security operatives rescue kidnapped woman, child

By Omolade Adegbuyi

A woman and her child were at the weekend rescued by Iru-Ekun,a security oufit set up by Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemi alias Igboho.

Irohinoodua was reliably informed that the woman and her child were rescued in Kwara State by a joint operation led by Iru Ekun and other security operatives deployed by the Nigerian authorities.

Our correspondent was informed that the rescue of the woman and her daughter was preceded by weeks of tracking and intelligence-led operations following their kidnap by Fulani armed men.

The woman and her child were said to have been kidnapped from Igboho town several months ago.

“We tracked the kidnappers. We monitored them day and night. We noticed that they had moved them Oyo State to Kwara. If we did not act promptly, they would have moved them to Sokoto State,” an operative of Iru-Ekun who does not wish to be named told Irohinoodua.

He said the operation led to fierce battle between the terrorists and Iru-Ekun.

“The gunbattle was fierce. The terrorists fought back after we sighted them. They opened fire as they sighted us. We returned fire and gunfight ensured. We were able to overpower them. We pursued them up to the border of Niger State,” the source said.

Igboho had visited his hometown about four weeks ago during which he warned Fulani residents giving them two hours to return the kidnapped woman and her child. The deadline expired without hope compelling Iru-Ekun to launch massive manhunt for the kidnappers.

Sources said the joint operation led by Sunday Igboho in collaboration with FID-IRT operatives successfully rescued the kidnapped woman and her two-year-old son in the forest of Bode Sadu located in Kwara State.
