Newsbreak: Sunday Igboho excapes death as terrorists open fire, several wounded

Yoruba self determination activist, Sunday Igboho escaped death on Thursday as terrorists opened sporadic fire on his team.
Iru Ekun, Igboho’s security group was conducting surveillance at the Oyo Park when armed terrorists trailing the team opened fire on them. Several were wounded. As at press time, Irohinoodua could not confirm if Igboho was shot by the terrorists suspected to be Fulani armed men.
A source close to the scene said Igboho managed to escape the sporadic attacks but that many of his members were not so lucky.
“Igboho would have been killed. The intention was to kill him. The attackers are terrorists. They were well armed with AK 47 and submachine guns,’ an official at Oyo Park told Irohinoodua.
The source said while Igboho’s convoy escaped the scene, he was ambushed again.
“Many of his boys were wounded. They were shot. Many have been taken to the hospital. The terrorists obviously had superior firepower,” the source said.
A youth working at im Oyo National Park said the terrorists have for long established a fortress inside Oyo park. He said they run a strong network of armed cells that have dominion over the forest for the past 10 years.
“Its a strong message to us in the South West. During the Jihad, the terrorists encamped at the same Oyo forest to launch attack on Yorubaland,’ Ahmed Adenreti told Irohinoodua.
Igboho and his team had embarked on a surveillance on the Oyo forest successfully using drones to track the terrorists.
