A new Director General Omotenioye Majekodunmi
has been appointed for the Nigeria Climate Change Council (NCCC). President Bola Tinubu earlier accepted the resignation of the former DG, Nkiruka Madueke.

Madueke had been at the helm of the council since her appointment in June 2024.

In her place, the President has appointed Majekodunmi, a seasoned expert in climate finance, as the new Director General.

According to the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mrs. Omotenioye Majekodunmi as the new Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC).”

The President commended Madueke’s foundational work in establishing the council, acknowledging her contributions to the development of Nigeria’s climate policies. On the other hand, Majekodunmi brings a wealth of experience to her new role, with over 17 years of expertise in renewable energy, carbon markets, and climate governance.

As the former Financial Adviser to the NCCC, Majekodunmi played a crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s climate policies and international engagements.

Her appointment underscores the Tinubu administration’s commitment to addressing climate change as a national priority for economic growth, security, and social inclusion.

The new DG is expected to build on the foundation laid by her predecessor and drive the country’s climate agenda forward. With her expertise and experience, Majekodunmi is well-positioned to lead the NCCC in developing and implementing effective climate policies that benefit Nigeria and its people.
