Niger Governor removes all Fulani District heads, replaces with indigenous Chiefs

In a radical move, the Governor of Niger State Mohammed Umaru Bago has sacked all Fulani District Heads replacing them with indigenous Nupe Chiefs.
The Fulani district heads known as Ardos were removed to curb kidnapping, violence and terrorism in the largely Islamic State.
The governor said the took the decision to curb rising cases of kidnapping.
He said Niger State is also deeply concerned about land grabbing, destruction of farmaland and invitation by local Fulani of other Fulani from outside the country to help them in sustained conflict with indigenous people in Niger State.
With the move, the Niger State Governor has ended centuries of Fulani domination over indigenous people in Niger State.
