Eco-Circulate Empowers Ojokoro Residents Through Waste-to-Value Exchange

By Samuel Ogunsona

The Lagos State Government’s Office of the Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy (OCCE) is set to launch its flagship circular economy initiative, Eco-Circulate, in Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

OCCE headed by Mrs Titilayo Oshodi aim to promote waste valorisation, responsible consumption, and climate literacy among Lagos residents.

The program is scheduled for Friday, February 28, 2026, in Akinsola Street, Ojokoro LCDA.

According to the press release made available to Irohinodua on Tuesday, the initiative has already made significant impact in several communities, diverting over 40,000 tonnes of recyclable waste from landfills and avoiding an estimated 33 million tonnes of CO₂e emissions.

“Eco-Circulate is designed to promote waste valorisation, responsible consumption, climate literacy, and inclusive economic participation across Lagos State.” Mrs Titilayo said.

The event will feature a one-day community outreach program where residents can exchange their sorted recyclable materials for incentives such as cash, data, airtime, and food items.

Residents of Ojokoro and surrounding communities are encouraged to participate and adopt circular economy principles.

The program is positioned to drive long-term behavioral change and increase awareness of environmental responsibility.
