Bandits launch explosive attacks on Abuja-Kaduna railway travellers

Bandits have launched attacks on rail travellers on the busy Abuja-Kaduna railways using explosives planted on the tracks.

Security experts say the bandits aim to halt the train so as to attack the passengers, mostly Nigerian elite who have abandoned the dangerous highways for train.

Sources told Irohinoodua that the attacks in railways have been intensified in recent months in many cases derailing the trains.

Former Senator who represented Kaduna State, Shehu Sanni said he was in a train that was recently attacked by bandits who planted explosives on the train tracks.

He said “They planted explosives that damaged the rail track and shattered the windscreen of the train engine. They also opened fire, targeting the Driver and the Tank.”

He said the latest incidence happened between Dutse and Rijana rail stations adding that the driver struggled to move towards Kaduna -Rigasa Station.

Narrating his own personal experience, Daniel said “This early morning I was on board when our train ran over another explosive damaged railings. The train nearly skid off its path the we miraculously escaped. All Kaduna Abuja train operations need to be suspended for today until this issue is addressed.”
