FG approves new army battalion for Omu-Aran, Kwara State

The Federal Government has approved a new military Battalion in Kwara State.

The military outpost, the first in the state will be located in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq praised President Tinubu for the battalion.

He said the step taken would reinforce security efforts with bringing more personnel and military assets.

The authorities said the effort is part of efforts to strengthen security in the state.

Kwara has seen many cases of kidnapping and banditry in recent years.

A statement by th Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Mashood AbdulRafiu Agboola made available to Irohinoodua said the new development will help fight terrorism.

The battalion is also expected to serve the states that surround Kwara like Kogi, Niger and Ekiti States.

The Kwara State Governor thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the meeting the request of the state for more military coverage

The Governor said “On behalf of the people and government of our state, I wholeheartedly thank Mr. President for yet another promise kept to the state. We are confident that the new battalion will greatly strengthen counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping operations across various areas,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.

AbdulRazaq thanked the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in the state.
