You are doing very well, President Trump commends Tinubu on fight against terrorism

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received commendation from the United States President Donald Trump.

The US President commended efforts of the Nigerian leader in his bid to defeat terror in Africa’s largest democracy.

More than 79,000 people were killed in terror-related violence in Nigeria between 2020 and 2025.

The Observatory for Religious Freedom in Africa (ORFA) claim no fewer than 79,323 were killed in terror related violence.

This included 42,033 civilians and 37,290 security personnel or armed group members.

Since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu came to power, he has introduced fresh strategies that has led to the killings of hundreds of terrorists while dislodging their network locally and internationally.

Few months ago, over 199 commanders of Boko Haram were eliminated in the country’s North East.

Trump praised Tinubu for his decisive leadership in stemming the tide of terrorism and insecurity in Nigeria.

He praised the Nigerian President for protecting Christian communities.

Trump made this known in a letter delivered to Tinubu.

Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga released the letter on Wednesday.

He quoted Trump as lauding President Tinubu’s decisive leadership against terrorists’.

Trump had praised Tinubu’s efforts to address security challenges and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.

Mr Tump wrote “Thank you for your thoughtful letter. Your kind words mean a great deal to me, and I appreciate your decisive leadership on behalf of the Nigerian people.

“I applaud your resolve to tackle the issues plaguing your nation, especially the violence affecting Christian communities, and it is a true honour to stand with you in the fight against terrorists and to make the Federal Republic of Nigeria stronger and more prosperous,” Trump wrote.

Trump described the relationship between both countries as crucial at a time when security challenges have spread across West Africa.

“The United States-Nigeria relationship is crucial at a time when conflict has spread across West Africa and around the world. We both share a mutual goal of confronting terrorism in all its forms, and our historic US-Nigeria 2026 Defence Cooperation Roadmap has established a robust framework to accomplish this feat,” Trump stated.
