Newsbreak: Armed men who kidnapped Edo Doctor, killed bother, arrested after seeking medicare

The police have confirmed the arrest of suspected kidnappers who abducted Abu Babatunde, a medical doctor in Auchi, Edo State.

The kidnappers had killed his younger brother, Abu Tahir.

The suspects took their sick child to the hospital where Dr. Babatunde works for medical treatment.

The police, acting on tip off, arrested them.

Irohinodua reported that the doctor was kidnapped alongside his brother on January 1, 2026, along City Pride Road in the Igbira Camp area of Auchi.

The kidnappers had demanded a N200 million ransom, which was later reduced to N40 million after negotiations with the family.

Dr. Babatunde was released after spending 13 days in captivity, but his brother was killed during the ordeal.

A close source from the victim’s family revealed to Irohinodua that the suspects were apprehended in Dr. Tunde’s hospital when they took their kids for medical care, and the doctor sighted them in the ward.

Another source from Auchi police division who wants to remain anonymous confirm to Irohinodua that the arrest happened around 9am on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

The Auchi Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the arrest, stating that the police had been conducting investigations for a long time and would publish a press release concerning the arrest soon.

When asked about the names of the victims, the Police PRO said a press release would be made available soon.

The family and colleagues of the victim have welcomed the news of the arrest, but are awaiting further details on the circumstances surrounding their capture.
