Terrorists have deviced a more grievous means of causing havoc in Nigeria.

They now deploy Improviced Explosive Devices, (IED) on highways to kill innocent citizens.

In Kwara, the device was left on the highway in Worro, Kiama killing one man. A mother and child were also wounded.

In Niger the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) killed nine people.

Experts in interviews with Irohinoodua warn of dare consequences as the terrorist may deploy the dangerous tactics to urban areas.

The fresh attacks have also raised fresh concerns within security circle.

In Kwara, a vehicle triggered an IED along a road in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area, killing a man instantly and injuring a woman and her child.

In another incidence, Irohinoodua gathered that eight people lost their lives after a vehicle they were travelling in ran over an IED planted along Luma Road, Borgu Local Government Area.

“This is a new phase in the campaign of terror. This means terrorists will just drop IEDs on the highways to taken many human lives. This is dangerous. It will make every town or village in Nigeria vulnerable”,a retired official of Nigerian Military Intelligence, (DMI) who does not wish to be named told Irohinoodua on Wednesday.

The blast came weeks after suspected terrorists destroyed a bridge in the same area, disrupting movement and livelihoods.

Improvised Explosive Device is a “homemade” bomb or fatal object deployed by terrorists terrorists or insurgents to kill and maim.

They are usually deployed along roads or concealed in small objects like polythene
They are cheap and can cause mass destructions and deaths. The IEDs have been employed by Al Queda in the Maghreb and ISIS in the middle east. The danger is that they could be used in areas with concentrated human traffic.

“Sadly, the man died instantly, while his passenger, a woman travelling with a little child, sustained injuries,” said Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.

Preliminary reports suggest that the IED may have been planted by suspected insurgents. “A car drove over an IED. We believe it was planted by Boko Haram members,” said ZulQharnain Shero Musa, Special Assistant on Media to the Kaiama Local Government Chairman

The incidents have raised concerns about the growing security threat in the region, with the Kwara State Government expressing fresh security concerns in the area already struggling with previous attacks.
