SW Governors urged to prepare for US strike in Nigeria

By Ogunsona Samuel

Governors of the South West and those in Kogi and Kwara States have been urged to prepare for the consequences of the possible United States strike on terrorist cells in Nigeria.

In a statement at the weekend, the Alliance for Yoruba Democratic Movements, (AYDM) said the US strike will drive the terrorists away from their hideout, forcing them to migrate to the industrial South West.

The group said those raising the issue of Nigerian sovereignty have forgotten that the country’s leaders have long trampled on and sold the sovereignty of the country through violent pillage of public resources, shameful rigging of elections and the free reign of terrorism which many of them sponsor and arm.

The group said terrorism is just one of the challenges facing Nigeria but that the brutal campaign of the Fulani Jihadists to subjugate and dominate the political economy of the country remains the most significant problem.

“It is obvious that Nigeria has no power to stop the US proposed strike. Unfortunately, the tradition of funding proxy protests and sponsored propaganda has no effect in this case. What is wise is for the Government at the state and national levels to prepare for the consequences and manage the situation in a way that the dignity of Yoruba Nation will be preserved.”

The AYDM statement signed by its General Secretary, Poloola Ajayi and Publicity Secretary, Suleiman Sanusi made avaiable to Irohinoodua said the mass killings of Christians in Nigeria is true but that thousands of Yoruba and Middle Belt Muslims have also fallen victim of violent extremism.

“You cannot heal a nation without speaking the truth. There is an open agenda to Islamise Nigeria. Thousands of people have been killed. Yoruba are direct victims. The agenda is to Islamise Nigeria. That is the truth. Their agents in Yorubaland are those proposing Sharia in Yorubaland. They failed to listen to the voice of reason until the Trump tweet. The Yoruba people are left with no option than to define its own strategy of response to the fallout of the almost imminent strike.”

The movement urged the South West Governors to work with Yoruba self-determination groups on intelligence gathering, data collation and community defence to protect Yoruba indigenous territories from further terrorist invasion.

AYDM said the proposed US strike will not stop the agenda of those pushing for Jihad in Nigeria adding that the only way is for Yoruba people on their own to mobilise to stop extremist incursion. It said Nigeria is in the sam situation of the Soviet Union in 1991 adding that the country faces the prospect of war or peaceful breakup.

The group said terrorism in Nigeria falls into the general challenge of ethnic persecution championed by Fulani hegemony.

The group said the critical issue is the peaceful dissolution of Nigeria.

“Why Mr Trump is being castigated by some Nigerian leaders, they fail to admit that the irresponsible, corrupt leadership and the failure to stop chilling violence drew the attention of Mr Trump.

AYDM said Nigerian streets are flowing with innocent human blood while the political elite take elections as the most important task.

“Thousands of people have been killed in Nigeria. It’s true the terrorists also target Christians. It is also true that they kill Muslims. The worse is that the terrorists want to turn Nigeria into an Islamic state of their own dream. The violent campaign is supported by Emirs and some politicians in the core North

“We have observed that some so called religious and political leaders in Yorubaland only speak for their pockets. There is no honour. They oppose the Trump proposal but they have no superior alternative. They do not care about the mass killing of their own people. They have no conscience.”

AYDM also commended the sanctions being proposed against certain individuals in Nigeria who support terrorism.

“We also support the proposal by the US Congress to sanction the 12 states in the North where Sharia has been introduced

“We call on the US Government to impose further sanctions on those promoting Sharia in Yoruba territories. Their recipe is a call for war through the imposition of Islamic laws in a plural society. The sanctions should be extended to supporters of Sharia in the National Assembly.”

AYDM called on the South West states to establish an Intellgence Gathering Burea to monitor terrorism and counter negative propaganda in Yoruba territories to sustain the relative peace in the region
