The Global Forum for Human Rights and Sustainable Development (GFHRSD) is to celebrate the 39-Years of Black History.
The idea is to commemorate the 2026 Black History Month under the theme: “30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries.
The organisers said the milestone marks three decades since Black History Month received official recognition in Canada, acknowledging the significant contributions of Black communities to the country’s development.
In this regard, GFHRSD has organized community-centered initiatives throughout February, including outreach visits to Black seniors in Ontario, heritage preservation conversations, and youth leadership advocacy discussions.
The Executive Director, Prince Segun Akanni in a statement made available to Irohinoodua, praised the Government of Canada for recognizing Black Canadians’ invaluable contributions and emphasized the importance of continued commitment to equity, multiculturalism, and inclusive nation-building.
The Forum will also host a Post-Black History Month Youth Empowerment Summit in July 2026, in partnership with The Drum Online Organization, to promote leadership development, civic engagement, and cross-cultural dialogue.
