Africa set for 60m green jobs by 2030

By Samuel Ogunsona

Jacob Ladder Africa group has announced inaugural framework to achieve 60 million green jobs in Africa by 2030.

The new initiative is underway to drive green skills development and job creation across Africa continent.

The group on Tuesday during an online press briefing revealed the inaugural GreenWorks 4 Africa Forum, which is scheduled for August 11-13, 2026, in Nairobi.

“The potential for growth in Africa’s green economy is undisputed,” said Sellah Bogonko, Co-Founder and CEO of Jacob’s Ladder Africa.

“However, these projections only become reality if we build the necessary infrastructure for green enterprises to thrive.”

The forum will bring together policymakers, private sector leaders, and NGOs to co-create actionable solutions that position Africa as a global leader in the green enterprise agenda.

According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), the green economy could generate over 60 million jobs in Africa by 2030, within the energy, waste, and natural resource sectors.

“As we look toward COP32 in Addis Ababa, we are maintaining the momentum of African climate leadership, with GreenWorks 4 Africa serving as a prime example of this commitment,” Bogonko added.

The three-day forum will feature thematic working rooms where participants will conduct sector-specific deep dives and develop practical, implementable outcomes.

The event is expected to produce an African Toolkit for Green Jobs Development and a proposed Green Jobs Taxonomy for Africa.
