Two regain freedom as troops raid kidnappers’ hideout in Taraba

Two abducted individuals were freed in Taraba State during a joint mission by the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke in the Lau local government area. Prompted by solid intelligence regarding criminal abductors in the Lande Jessi region, troops executed the surprise dawn operation on Saturday, July 26.
Nigerian Army troops rescued two kidnapped residents, Usman Mohammed and Usman Harusu, after armed criminals attacked Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani villages and stole food. Lieutenant Umar Muhammad announced the successful operation following targeted searches in strategic areas.
The captives, held for a week, regained freedom in the raid, though the Army stayed silent on arrests or the suspects’ location.
Operation Whirl Stroke soldiers showed their strong will to stop kidnapping and violent crimes in Taraba State and nearby places.
Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their professionalism, resilience and swift response, saying their actions underscored the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
According to him, the successful mission fulfilled the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu’s mandate to ramp up the fight against kidnapping, banditry, and other crimes to bring back lasting safety across the nation.
