Newsbreak: IED explodes in Lagos, residents wounded

Security sources have confirmed the explosion of Improvised Explosive Device in Lagos. The explosion took place at Mushin, an ancient neigbourhood.
It was no clear as at press time if the incidence was a terrorist attack.
Not too long ago, Kwara State confirmed an IED exploded near Woro community in Kaiama. The incident was linked to a terrorist attack.The Kwara State Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye said the IED was planted on the street and exploded when a car passed on it.
Many Pan Yoruba groups have raised concern about the prospect of violent attacks on industrial South West amid rising insecuity in Nigeria.
Irohinoodua was informed that explosion rocked a major market located in Mushin leaving scores wounded. A resident of Mushin, Mr Popoola Ajayi who spoke to our correspondent said the political leadership in the South West are “largely naive and tend to undermine the dangerous security situation and the bleak future” adding that the IED explosion in Mushin has stirred fresh anxiety across Yorubaland
Ajayi is the President, Alliance for Yoruba Democratic Movement, (AYDM) the largest coalition of Pan Yoruba groups.
Many who spoke to Irohinoodua at Mushin express confidence in the current Lagos State Police Commissioner Tijani Fatai describing him as a hardworking,
dedicated and loyal officer
Police operatives were said to have responded to the explosion by sending bomb experts to te scene.
Sources said the Lagos State Police Command sent officers to the Shoe Materials Market after the blast was reported.
Police Authorities told Irohinoodua that the Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani sent officers to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit immediately to secure the area and investigate.
The police are working on the theory that an IED was the cause, though investigations are ongoing to confirm what triggered it.
“We received reports of an explosion and immediately sent our EOD unit to the scene. The area was quickly sealed off and thoroughly inspected,” the police said.
Police said the device had been hidden beneath the passenger seat of a vehicle and went off as the driver started it.
“The IED was placed under the passenger side of the vehicle. It exploded when the vehicle was started,” the police stated.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment. Officials said he is stable and responding to care.
According to the police one person sustained injuries and was taken to hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment and is in stable condition.
After sweeping the market, the EOD team found no other explosives.
The Police urged traders and residents to stay calm and go about their business, adding that security agencies have the situation under control.
