Wives of engineers abducted since 2021 cry out to Tinubu

A petition has been filed by the wives of five engineers, abducted since 2021.

The engineers were abducted while working on the Abakaliki Ring Road project in Ebonyi state.

The women urged President Bola Tinubu to kindly intervene and compel security agencies to locate their missing husbands.

In a petition filed by their solicitors, the women appealed to Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker Abbas Tajudeen to take action.

The petition, addressed to the president and National Assembly leadership, was also copied to governors of Anambra and Enugu states, as well as the National Human Rights Commission.

The abducted engineers are Nelson Onyemeh, Ernest Edeani, Ikechukwu Ejiofor, Samuel Aneke, and Stanley Nwazulum, all employees of NELAN Construction Limited. The incident occurred in Effium community, Ebonyi State, amid clashes between the lead consultant and local interests over project management.

The petition alleges that despite reports suggesting the workers may have been killed, the families have received no information on their whereabouts.

“Our clients lament helplessly that till date, nothing meaningful has been heard about the whereabouts of the victims who are husbands, fathers and breadwinners in their respective families,” the petition stated.

The women are demanding a full-scale investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the abduction.

“We believe that this option is far preferable to that one that compels the traumatised families, by government’s inaction, to take to the streets in protests over their loved ones missing since November 2021 without any meaningful action from the government,” the petition added.

The families are seeking the president’s assistance in bringing the perpetrators to justice and providing closure for the affected families.
