Newsbreak: Terrorists behead Oyo teacher after abduction

One of the teachers kidnapped from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire LGA, Oyo State, has been reportedly killed by his captors.

A clip circulating on Sunday, May 17, 2026, depicts the kidnappers beheading Michael Oyedokun. Irohinoodua was informed that the clip has traumatised many, including family members.

The armed men broke into the school on Friday, May 15, 2026, took away the principal, multiple teachers, and students. Some of the victims are barely fives years old or less. The police said they have deployed intelligence and personnel to track down the terrorists.

Afenifere, the Pan Yoruba group has raised the alarm that the South West is under siege. The Senate has also called for ugent action to rescue the victims.

The attack has heightened concerns about the deteriorating security situation in parts of Oyo State and across the country.

The video has plunged the community into grief, with residents and relatives of the victims urging security agencies and the Oyo State Government to accelerate rescue operations to protect those still in captivity.

According to the Oyo State Police Command, two individuals—a teacher and an okada rider—lost their lives during the Friday assault on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A Primary School in Esiele, Oriire LGA.

The okada rider was allegedly shot dead after resisting attempts by the gunmen to take his motorcycle.

The attackers also seized a Toyota Corolla belonging to the kidnapped vice principal and later burned it along a road leading into the bush.

The incident has further fueled anxiety over school-targeted attacks, coming after recent abduction attempts along the Ibadan-Ijebu road corridor.

Families and community members are continuing to call on authorities to ramp up efforts and ensure the safe release of those still being held.
