Tinubu appoints Senator Adetunbi, Dr. Akinola to lead SWDC

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Senator Olubunmi Adetunbi as the Chairman and Dr. Charles Akinola as the Managing Director of the newly established South West Development Commission (SWDC).

The appointments aim to drive development and growth in the South West region.

Dr Akinola was an aide of former Governor of Osun State and current Federal Minister, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, who is believed to have nominated him.

Akinola had also worked with former Osun State Governor Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola who first invited Akinola to work with him. Akinola lated pitched tents with Oyetola.

Senator Olubunmi Adetunbi, a seasoned International development expert
and Senator Adetunbi, a two-time senator representing Ekiti North, are expected to bring wealth of experience in project financing, financial management, and international development consulting to South West.

Adetunbi born on August 22, 1955, in Ido Ekiti, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics and a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan.

His work experience spans over three decades, including stints at the Central Bank of Nigeria, Cadbury Plc., USAID, and DFID.

“Senator Adetunbi’s appointment is a testament to his expertise and commitment to driving development in the South West region,” a source close to the presidency told Irohinodua

Also, Dr. Charles Akinola, is a Public Policy Expert and Administrator.

Dr. Akinola, the Managing Director of SWDC, is an agriculturist, sustainable development expert, and public policy advisor. Born in July 1956, Dr. Akinola holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Ife and a doctorate degree in Agricultural Extension from the University of Ibadan.

He was a Mason Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and Fellow at the Harvard Weatherhead Centre for International Affairs.

“Dr. Akinola’s appointment is a strategic move to leverage his expertise in public policy and administration to drive growth and development in the South West region,” said a statement from the presidency.

The South West Development Commission is expected to drive economic growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance the quality of life for residents in the region. Senator Adetunbi and Dr. Akinola will work together to ensure the commission achieves its mandate and makes a meaningful impact on the lives of South Westerners.

As the commission begins its work, stakeholders are optimistic about the potential for growth and development in the region. “The appointment of Senator Adetunbi and Dr. Akinola is a positive step towards driving development in the South West region,” said a prominent businessman from the region. “We look forward to seeing the impact of their work.”

The appointments are seen as a key step towards realizing the full potential of the South West region and improving the lives of its residents.
