Terrorism: Speaker to marry off 100 female orphans as part of constituency project in Niger State

The Niger State House of Assembly Speaker, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, is set to marry off 100 female orphans who lost their parents to banditry attacks in Mariga Local Government Area wives.

The Speaker while addressing
journalists at the weekend in Minna said the effort is part of the constituency’s empowerment project.

However, the ages of the 170 female orphans of which 100 “beneficiaries’ were ‘carefully’ selected for the marriage were not disclosed.

Sarkindaji has promised to pay their bride price and claimed to have procured all necessary materials for the mass marriage ceremony.

The mass wedding is slated for May 24 at Bangi, the headquarters of Mariga Local Government Area.

According to the Speaker, who describes the initiative as one of the constitcy projects also said, “ it aimed at alleviating the suffering of the impoverished.”

He also noted that the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, and the Emir of Kontagora, Alhaji Mohammed Barau, would serve as guardians to the female orphans during the marriage ceremony.

The Kano State Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, is also expected in the mass marriage ceremony.
