More than 20 heavily armed terrorists have again invaded Iyemero-Ekiti forcing thousands of locals to scamper into the bush for safety

Sources told Irohinoodua that the armed men suspected to be Fulani came into the village round 7pm on Wednesday.

The source said they started shooting as awed residents wailed while vigilante and local hunters fought bravely.

Iyemero is located in Ajoni Local Government Development Area of Ekiti State.

The local government Chairman, Prince Micheal Ogungbemi is from the community.

“They were fully armed. They shot sporadically for about 30 minutes non stop. The whole community, young and old, women and children even the physically challenged ran into the bush. We dont have a police station here. We never had one eventhough our community is over 800 years old” Juliana Omogbemi a teacher who is familiar with the incidence told
Irohinoodua.

She said soldiers stationed about four kilometres away responded to distress call after local vigilantes had fought courageously to fight back the advancing terrorists. Several Amotekun personnel were late mobilised to repel the attackers without success until soldiers came.

One Amotekun operative said the local vigilantes put up by the local government demonstrated professionalism and dedication in fighting back the invaders. The official who does not wish to be named said the terrorists came with AK-47 adding that the invaders have a large camp in the forest that extends up to Kwara and Kogi States.

Independent sources said the attackers escaped with three people that were kidnapped as they retreated in the face of soldiers, vigilante and Amotekun fire power.

It was unclear how many people they might have kidnapped amidst conflicting reports
.
The Amotekun official said his team were in the community trying to ascertain how many people were missing or if there was none at all.

He said “People ran into the bush. We cant be sure of people kidnapped until we so proper human auditing” he told Irohinoodua
