Newsbreak:Terrorists attack Yorubaland in Kogi, kill VP, 6-year old as army halts mass adoption

Heavily armed terrorists stormed Government Secondary School, Iluke, Bunu area of Kogi State on Wednesday killing the Vice Principal of the school and two others.

Sources told Irohinoodua that the terrorists had planned to kidnap pupils writing their West African Examination Council, [WAEC] in the school.

Acting on a tip off, soldiers drafted to the scene were said to have prevented what could have been another mass abduction of secondary school students.

Our correspondent was informed that the pupils remain trembled with many of them in shock all day.

“The fear imposed on the students will last for a long time. Many of them will be affected regarding their performances in the examination. Some parents insisted their wards would not return to school again.”

The terrorists were said to have been armed with AK-47 when they stormed the community located in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State in the early hours of Wednesday.

The VP, Ganiyu Anifowose was said to have been short dead by the terrorists said to be mainly young men suspected to be from Northern Nigeria.

“These are foreigners on our land. They are terrorists trying to take over Nigeria. They are driven by ethnic Jihad. There is a big trouble on the land,” Chief Akintunde Adaba, an indigene of Kabba who live in the area told Irohinoodua.

Local sources said the terrorists targeted students writing their West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE.

During the attack, two others were also killed. One source said one of the victims was a six year old pupil.

Soldiers camped at Suku-Kiri Bunu were said to have responded swiftly to halt the terrorists advance on Iluke Bunu1.

The soldiers, according to sources, engaged the terrorists in a gun duel, forcing them to retreat. One of the terrorists was said to have been killed by soldiers.

Authorities of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area confirmed the attack.
